Kitikmeot Environmental Ltd. (KEL) is a joint venture between KBL Environmental Ltd. and Kitikmeot Corporation. KEL is based in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut with Kitikmeot Corporation being an indigenous business with 51% ownership of the KEL Joint Venture.
Drawing on each other’s experience, local knowledge, and resources, KEL brings a unique blend of local knowledge and experience combined with the technical ability, expertise, and capacity to provide a wide range of environmental services to meet a variety of needs.
KEL’s expertise and success stems from our team member’s abilities to overcome unique challenges presented in projects we’ve serviced this past decade. We pride our company on the resourcefulness of our people and the flexibility to apply out of the box thinking to unconventional situations encountered in the northern climates. KEL executes projects emphasizing the synergy between regulatory compliance and project execution.
Environmental services provided are spill response, environmental drilling and sampling, and site remediation services in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut.
This partnership has designed and built a licensed soil treatment facility in Cambridge Bay in 2017, the first of it’s kind in Nunavut.

Soil Treatment Facility
Safeguarding the Environment
In 2017, our partnership proudly unveiled a groundbreaking achievement – Nunavut’s first licensed soil treatment facility (STF), located in Cambridge Bay. This facility serves as a testament to our commitment to sustainable solutions.
Soil treatment facilities are utilized for the receipt of contaminated soils that can be treated to levels approved for beneficial re-use. Jurisdictional regulations govern requirements of the facilities engineering and operations through formal permitting processes. Facilities are frequently located adjacent to municipal solid waste landfills, so treated soils can be re-used as cover material for low density municipal solid waste.
A formal profiling process is completed, including chemical analysis and review by technical staff to understand levels of contamination and ensure that treatment can be achieved.
